The images are part of a series that tell the story of Teiu family, from a small village in the North East of Romania.
The main character of the story is the girl, Amalia. She seemed to be the head of the family at only 10 years old, taking care of her three brothers; Alexandru, Marcel and Vasilica. They live with their mother in a derelict cottage, she is hardly ever there and their cottage, is rented from the government. Their father left them about three years ago going to Italy to work, but never come back.
The theme of this project is very controversial subject, and affects greatly a growing generation; migration and how it influences the young and vulnerable. It is not a novelty, however, in my opinion, because of the nowadays’ freedom of travelling, this issue has dangerously grown. This phenomenon is happening all around the world, not only in a particular country. However, my project examines the consequences of this growing phenomenon in one country; Romania. People migrate and leave their children behind.
In some instances, migration may be regarded as a positive, a model of success, but in my experience, and according to the evidence, the negatives are significantly higher. My series of photographs, within the narrative, portray the consequences for these children, when one of the parents leave the home and the children are left to fend for themselves.
